Termite Protection

Our Latest Termite Work

One in every three households has active termites or a termite history (1982-83 survey NSW). It is therefore essential to understand how these destructive pests live, be able to identify activity in your home, and be able to prevent or minimize the development of any termite activity.

Termite Treatment Case Study:

Here is an example of the comprehensive termite treatment plan we did for a recent customer at Georges Hall. This will give you an idea of what needs to be done to fully kill, remove and protect a house from termites.

Our technician carried out an inspection of the premises, and active termites located in several areas of the house.

A full treatment was recommended to the owner by carrying out the following:

  1. Treat activity in the roof beams by applying TERMIDOR dust to the workings. Activity was also found in internal walls of the lounge area and back bedroom.
  2. On further inspection a sub nest was found under the stairwell area and was very large and active.
  3. It took our technician half a day to clear the sub nest as some parts were like cement indicating they had been there for a long time.
  4. The treatment was then carried out to the external areas of the house by drilling a 12 mm hole around the concrete areas every 300mm and inserting TERMIDOR Termite Chemical into the ground which then will form a barrier to the external part of the house.
  5. The house had a partial subfloor area which was trenched around all the brick piers and walls and then chemicals applied to this area as well.
  6. Once all the treatment was done the customer is informed that there will be a requirement to check of the back areas that had been treated with TERMIDOR dust. (It will be checked 7-10 days after initial treatment).
  7. An inspection is carried out on the entire property again after 28 days and if no activity is found then 6 months another inspection will be carried out.
  8. If it is clear a yearly inspection is done as part of the warranty given to the customer for the internal treatment.

When a technician is called out to do a TERMITE INSPECTION and find active Termites, in some situations a chemical barrier cannot be used; for example:

  1. If the house is situated on top of a rock shelf, which means the chemical cannot penetrate through to the soil or where access cannot be gained to the house being on a slab (not the sub floor). In these cases a BAITING and MONITORING system is recommended to the client.
  2. The treatment is carried out by the technician finding the activity and installing an AG (above ground station). This is secured to the area where the activity is and then bait placed inside and sealed.
  3. Then monitoring stations are placed around the perimeter of the house every 5 meters. There are TWO types which are installed directly into the ground, and indicate where a hole is and drill through the cement and the bait is placed inside and a cap placed on top to secure it.
  4. Once the whole system has been installed the technician will return on a 2 week basis to check the above ground stations that were installed where the activity was.
  5. If the half has been eaten the stations are re baited and sealed again. This is done until all evidence of activity has ceased.
  6. Once the all clear is given the customer is set up with a monitoring program of all external stations which can be from every 8 weeks to 3 monthly periods.
  7. If activity is found in any of the external stations then the station is baited and the process is checked again every 2 weeks until activity is ceased.
  8. The in ground and in concrete stations have timber insects placed in them so as termites travel through the ground they will defect the timber and attack the stations and not the dwelling.

Kevin Joyce Pest Management are fully qualified installers of the NEMISIS TERMITE BAITING SYSTEM.

Reticulation Systems

Kevin Joyce Pest Management uses the Camilleri Under slab injection system for long term protection against termites. This system involves injecting Termiticide under concrete slabs or around the perimeter of the house. Perforated polythene pipes are installed. The soil is then chemically treated by injecting a Termiticide into the pipes. Small taps are placed at the end of each pipe and then a non-return valve is fitted as the sole injection point for that particular valve box. Several valve boxes may be fitted according to the size of the house. The valve box is fitted with a strong lid, which can be bolted for safety.

Pre-Slab Termite Treatment

Many local councils require a Termite Barrier to new constructions or extensions of your home. Kevin Joyce Pest Management can provide Pre-Slab Termite Barrier treatments. A Pre-Slab Treatment is carried out prior to the concrete slab being poured. Our technicians attend to the site to spray the area using Termiticide to the Australian Standards.

Pre Purchase Termite Inspections

Prior to buying a new home/unit, it is recommended to carry out a Pre-Purchase Termite Inspection. Kevin Joyce Pest Management provides these Pre-Purchase Inspections and supply a detailed Report on completion. If further recommendations need to reported in regards to the building the technicians will supply this information with the Pre-Purchase Report.
